The Travel Backpack Original

The bag is overall really cool– smart modular design and clever solutions for many everyday backpacker problems, down to small details like elastic loops on the straps so nothing dangles.

However, when traveling for longer periods, several issues appear that could really use improvement or addition of extra gear from other shops. The Globetrotter set mainly includes three bags: the main backpack, the daypack, and the small pouch. When flying between destinations, it makes sense to use one of these as carry-on and check the rest in. Wayks has a great idea with the attachable system that turns two bags into one large pack – but the grey plastic clips are quite weak and always pop open, even dropping the attached bag before arriving at the baggage claim. You also have to empty both bags to be able to clip them together, which makes the system very impractical. I replaced the original connectors with small metal carabiners, which work much better.

When combining two bags, you also can’t use the included rain cover/flight bag, as it’s too small for the extended setup. That means you have to check the backpack in on your flight without protection – and every time I’ve done that (across most of Europe and Asia), it came out so dirty and scuffed. The fabric looks great but is far too delicate for heavy travel; honestly, the bag only survives one proper flight in good condition.

I also find the main backpack too small compared to how much space the daypack takes up. Even as a light traveler, I have to store my toiletry bag and a jacket in the attached daypack.

I haven’t used the camera cube as a separate camera bag, since it’s uncomfortable to carry, -probably because it’s designed as the base of the main pack. Still, it’s perfect for protecting electronics or fragile gear when traveling by bus or plane.

The bag itself is also quite heavy when empty, and the hip and back support could definitely be better.

Overall, it’s a really clever, beautifully designed bag – I’ve received compliments on it all over the world – but for the price, I really wished it could perform better for traveling longer than a weekend trip.

Hello Leonie and Fabian! Ich bin insegsamt sehr zufrieden mit dem Global Bundle. Die einzige Ausnahme stellt der Hüftgurt dar. Das Polster sollte über den gesamten Gurt gehen, so dass auch nicht so dünne Menschen das Polster auf dem Hüftknochen haben und nicht nur den schmalen Gurt, da dies sehr unbequem ist. Prima, wäre es auch, wenn es einen noch größeren Regenschutz gäbe, damit der Rucksack (mit allen Teilen, vollständig zusammengestellt( auch geschützt werden kann (hilfreich bei Flugreisen) und nicht der Hauptrucksack. äußerlich sehr ansprechend und in den details gut durchdacht (viele kleine taschen unb komprimierbare beipack-taschen). auch die erweiterungsmöglichkeiten mit einem tagesrucksack sind für mich sehr interessant und nützlich. ich bin von einem (sehr guten, aber schweren und großen) 70l-modell auf den leichteren und kompakteren wayks-rucksack gekommen, weil ich mit der bahn reise und da auf jeden fall "schlanker" und leichter unterwegs sein möchte und mich das wayks-konzept online überzeugt hat (auch was die nachhaltigkeit betrifft). der erste einsatz steht kurz bevor und ich bin auf die praktische erfahrung gespannt (als vorschusslorbeeren gibt´s also die 5 sterne-bestnote)

The backpack arrived just in time for a 2-week trip I’ve planned, and it was one of 2 bags I’ve brought with me on the trip, the other being just a shoulder bag to hold key items while I’m out and about. Granted, I had easy access to washers, so I was able to bring less clothes, though I ended up buying enough souvenirs to fill up the bag.

Few things that I really liked:
- It was extremely easy to load and access all of the contents in the bag utilizing the back zipper.
- The elastic band on each of the straps is a fantastic touch, as it allows me to tidy up hanging straps so that I don’t end up slapping others around me, or worse, get caught by closing train doors.
- The waist bag is incredible: I have enough confidence on its sturdiness to reduce the wrappings on potteries to make space for more. The fact that it’s detachable also allowed me to fit the bag into flight cabins more reasonably, without taking up almost half of a single cabin.

Things I’m somewhat iffy about: I’ve not used the simpler straps but they don’t look too comfortable, and seem to really be meant for one-day or 2D1N trips.

Ich hatte den Rucksack jetzt zweimal im Einsatz, einmal zum Wandern und einmal zum Camping. Er hat beides tadellos mitgemacht. Die vielfältigen Wandlungsmöglichkeiten sind wirklich super, und er macht einen einen qualitativ hochwertigen und stabilen Eindruck.

Allerdings habe ich folgende kleine Kritikpunkte: Wenn der Rucksack sehr voll ist, drückt bei mir der Verschluss, mit dem die Höhenverstellung des Rückenpanels hält, auf die Wirbelsäule. Das liegt wahrscheinlich daran, dass ich <160 cm bin und das Rückenpanel daher auf eine kurze Einstellung gestellt habe, die ja recht weit oben sitzt. Fürs Camping wäre es schön, wenn der Rucksack neben dem Mat Strap noch mehr Möglichkeiten hätte, um große Dinge außen anzubringen, z.B. an den Seiten des Rucksacks. Bei den einfachen Rucksackträgern würde ich mir wünschen, dass sie etwas breiter wären und die Nähte an den Verschlüssen entweder außen angebracht oder etwas anders designt wären. So, wie sie jetzt sind, drücken die Nähte bei mir auf den Schultern.

Insgesamt kann ich den Rucksack aber sehr empfehlen, besonders die vielen Fächer innen und Wandelbarkeit sind super. Der Rucksack wird mich definitv noch viele Jahre begleiten.

Der Rucksack und die Taschen sind großartig! Ich freue mich jedesmal, wenn ich ihn brauche!
Es ist alles genaus so wie beschrieben und man spürt mit wieviel Liebe er erdacht und hergestellt wurde!

Ich hab das Globetrotter Bundle Original gekauft, weil ich mich von meiner Taschen und Rucksack Sammlung verabschieden wollte. Ist doch super, dachte ich,da kauft man einmal ein großes Bundle und hat immer die richtige Tasche dabei. Leider ist die Idee bei mir nicht aufgegangen, weshalb ich mich jetzt im Nachhinein sehr ärgere. Vor allem der große Wayks ist für meinen Alltag nicht so praktisch und komfortabel wie ich dachte. Jetzt sitze ich auf einem Nagel neuen Set des Wayks Globetrotter Bundle Original und kann damit nichts anfangen.
Wie schon gesagt, finde ich die Grundidee von Wayks mega, sie hat nur leider für mich nicht funktioniert.

I took the Wayks Travel Backpack Original on a two-week trip by train through Italy and it really worked well for me. I had hiking gear, stuff for swimming and sport, plus clothes for everyday – and it all fit in. I also had my laptop with me and that went in easily too.

What I liked most was how flexible the whole system is, with all the ways you can adjust and combine things. The material feels solid but light, and it’s easy to wipe clean – after dusty trails or sand, no problem.

Honestly, it’s such a convinient solution if you want to travel with just one set of bags and still stay flexibel. I’d defintely get it again and would recommend it to anyone who doesn’t want to carry around too many bags.
